Yes. Online classes must be successfully completed to begin behind the wheel training. Teens under the age of 18 are required to complete a Driver Education program to obtain a driver license.

Yes. Students who complete the classroom phase of training online have the flexibility to take the behind-the-wheel phase at any driving school of their choice. You will need to provide your Online Certificate of Completion as proof that you have successfully completed the online program to meet the requirements.

After enrolling, you will gain access to the OFFICIAL Driving School Student Portal. To begin scheduling your behind-the-wheel training, you will need to upload a copy of your Online Certificate of Completion as proof that you have successfully completed the required online classroom phase.

Visit the OFFICIAL Driving School website, select Ohio Teen Driver’s Ed Behind the Wheel Only, and select a convenient location. This will be the location from which you receive your behind the wheel training. Select a program that suits your needs and carefully review the program details including the OFFICIAL Driving School location and program content. Once you have selected a program you will need to enroll. At the time of enrollment, you will need to provide payment in full. After you enroll you should receive a confirmation email which will serve as proof of your enrollment.

You can still enroll in the Ohio Teen Driver Education Online Only without your permit. You must, however, obtain your permit to begin behind the wheel training. To apply for your Temporary Permit, you must be at least 15 years and 6 months of age.

At 15 years and 6 months, you can complete the knowledge test online at the Ohio BMV-Online or go to any driver exam station to take the knowledge test and vision screening to begin the temporary permit process. Once the knowledge test and vision screening are passed you can proceed to a BMV deputy registrar license agency to purchase a TIPIC within 60 days of passing the test.

Students are allowed a maximum of 180 days from the date of their first behind-the-wheel lesson to complete the required behind-the-wheel training.

Once the classroom phase of training has been successfully completed and the student has obtained a Temporary Instruction Permit, they can proceed to schedule their behind the wheel training on the student portal. Students must provide TIPIC information to schedule behind the wheel training on the student portal. Students are permitted 180 days, from their first behind the wheel session, to complete the required behind the wheel training.

Your first behind the wheel lesson can be up to one month from the time you schedule. The timeframe will vary depending on the season. Scheduling for Driver Education tends to take longer during the summer months due to higher demand for services. Behind the wheel training is scheduled through the Student Portal.

The student must present their original Temporary Instruction Permit (TIPIC) to the instructor at the beginning of each lesson. This is a legal requirement. If you fail to bring your TIPIC, the lesson will be canceled with a late cancellation fee.

Any student violating the rules and regulations as contained in this policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the program with no refund. No refund will be issued due to disciplinary action that prevents a student from completing an OFFICIAL Driving School Driver Education course. 

Prohibited acts include, but are not limited to: 

Teasing, insulting, name-calling, mean or rude gestures toward peers, instructors or employees, spreading rumors or behavior that would hurt others feelings, swearing, taunting, ridiculing, humiliating, threatening, pushing, shoving, grabbing, spitting, sexual or ethnic harassment, stealing or extortion, fighting, kicking, punching, gang-related gestures, assault, cheating, forgery, using cell phones during instruction–Classroom, Drives & Observation, destruction of property belonging to OFFICIAL Driving School Driver Education or the facility in which classes are  being held. 

OFFICIAL Driving School Driver Education will expel any student who is in violation of State Laws and/or Local 

Ordinances which include, but are not limited to: 

Abuse of fire alarms, safety equipment, bomb threats, lighting of fires or burning or attempting to burn any property belonging to the OFFICIAL Driving School Driver Education or the facility in which classes are being held or property belonging to persons employed by OFFICIAL Driving School Driver Education or attending the course, or the employees of the facility in which classes are being held. Possession, use of or threatening to use dangerous weapons such as, but not limited to: firearms, knives, iron bars, or brass knuckles. Possession, use, or threatening the use of any weapon or dangerous object capable of inflicting bodily harm including but not limited to: chains, knives, fireworks, explosives, smoke bombs, and toy weapons resembling any of the above.
